The mother often sang songs to him, putting him to bed, and Igor was not just listening to them, he reacted. If the song was sad, then his face reflected sadness, and with a cheerful song he happily clapped and laughed. Igor’s father played the accordion. The brothers often staged “concerts” at home.

Musical career

This musical childhood could not fail to leave a mark in the life of Igor Talkov. He was involved in music studying at school. Igor taught himself to play the piano, which was a big surprise for the parents. After that, his mother took him to a music school. Igor’s talent manifested itself instantly. All the tunes he grasped by ear.

In 1975, when Igor Talkov was 18 years old, he dared to say what he thought about Soviet leader Brezhnev and the system. For such bravery he was invited to KGB for “serious talk”. Igor Talkov was saved by his friend Anatoly Kondratyev – known cyclist in Tula, very popular at the time. He managed to avoid court, by serving in the army, in a construction battalion. It was in the army – a turning point in his life. By that time he was playing the guitar and sang. After the army Igor sang his songs in the best restaurants of Moscow and Sochi. Real success came to him after participating in a song festival broadcasted on the first channel of Russian TV “The song of the year”. His songs were reflection of that time – collapsing the Soviet Union. By 1989, Igor had written over two hundred songs.

Death of Igor Talkov

He was killed with a revolver “Nagan” October 6, 1991 in St. Petersburg at the Sports Palace “Yubileiny”. Igor himself said, long before his death, the prophetic words: “I will be killed in front of large crowds and the killer will not be found”. How did he know? Maybe he, like many of the great Russian poets, was given more than the gift of prophecy. Every time he went to the scene, Igor wore a clean white shirt, baptized himself, and the scene was as if the scaffold.

City Prosecutor’s Office opened a criminal case. Igor Malakhov, declared all-Union wanted, voluntarily came to confess. In December 1991, he was acquitted of murder. After conducting examinations in April 1992, investigators determined that the final shot did Shlyafman. However, in February 1992, the defendant had already left for Israel, with which Russia at that time did not have extradition treaty, and a murder case was suspended.

My Motherland

I am walking through the shards of childhood fantasies,
In my homeland,
Where it seems nothing happens seriously to me, to me.
I had to get so tired having pulled through to Christ’s age,
Oh God.
Yet around me as if on parade,
The whole nation is walking into hell with wide steps.

My motherland, grief filled and numb,
My motherland, you have lost your mind.

In suspended animation Moscow lives out its century,
Its come to that, to that.
Over the church domes Lucifer’s star has risen, has risen.
Watching from above,
As you’re sold off the mallot for five kopecks,
Laughing over your memory is your past lackey from the West.
Watching from above,
As you’re sold off the mallot for five kopecks,
Laughing over your memory is your past demon from the West.

For the eighth decade it is not the rain
Which washes your cross, your cross.
They are the tears of your great sons from the skies, from the skies.
They are watching from the clouds,
As you are bowing before the yoke of idiots,
Either you drink up and grieve,
Or you hunger in silence,
Or pray.

They are watching from the clouds,
As you are bowing before the yoke of idiots,
Either you drink up and grieve,
Or you hunger in silence,
Or pray.
