Russian style fashion, known as a la Rus is characterized by excessive, wealth parading luxury in detail. Despite the fact that in the XX century there was an end of the Russian Empire, Russian style conquered Europe. The first burst of fashion for everything Russian occurred after the collection “Kazan” of the leading French fashion designer of the early 20th century Parisian couturier Paul Poiret (20 April 1879 – 30 April 1944). Poiret admired Russian folk costumes – sarafans, shawls, scarves, and successfully embodied in his collection innovative features of Russian style.

Also a great influence on the formation of fashion a la Rus had a tour of Sergei Diaghilev’s ballet “Russian Seasons”. In addition, during the revolutionary years, a mass emigration from Russia, and among the emigrants were many aristocrats who began working abroad as mannequins and models have raised the profession to a higher level. Common features of the style a la Rus:

1. Skirts and dresses in the style a la Rus should be the length of the midi, maxi and super-maxi; necessarily flared from the waist or hips, or – cut in the form of a bell, but not skin-tight.
2. Hats and scarves. Perhaps the most characteristic of the style a la Rus is a headdress – kokoshnik. Kokoshnik is the most used by the designers, creating an image in Russian and pseudo-Russian style. But it also may be a variety of patterned scarves (like Pavlovoposadsk), light kerchief, turbans or hats with earflaps.
3. A la Rus style – Velvet, satin, velvet accents and accessories. Satin slippers and boots with high heels, coats, belts, bags, wallets made of velvet, etc.
4. Footwear: high-boots, shoes, boots, our ancestors especially loved the colors – red and gold (as domes of Russian churches) go perfectly with clothes in the style a la Rus.
5. Bag – shaped like basket or traditional tuesok; bead, velvet, satin, embroidered – using the classic Russian-style floral pattern of Pavlovo-posadsk handkerchief or crafts.
