The town of Vidnoe, Leninsky District, Moscow Region, is located 5 km from the Moscow Ring Road, among picturesque forests and water bodies. The first mention of settlements dates back to the XIV century. There are about 300 historical and architectural monuments in these places. The young town of Vidnoye (on January 3, 1965, the village of Vidnoye was transformed into a city of regional subordination) in 2006 took 1st place in the competition “The Most Comfortable City of Russia” among cities with less than 100 thousand people.
The city Vidnoye got its name because it is located on a hill and is visible from afar.
One of the city’s attractions is the St George Church, which is located next to the Alley of Glory.
At the beginning of 2004, Metropolitan of Krutitsky and Kolomna Yuvenaly (Poyarkov) came to the Catherine monastery, located on the outskirts of the city. He spoke in favor of establishing a central city church on the Vidnovskaya land. Juvenaly immediately went to the proposed construction site of the church. Interestingly, this event was not planned and was conducted without protocol.
And already in December 2004, Metropolitan Yuvenaly performed the rite of consecration of the temple at the proposed construction site. The design of the temple began in the spring of 2005. The architects were faced with the task of creating a temple in memory of the feat of our people in the Great Patriotic War, “heavenly music”, which was frozen in stone. The temple was built under the bells so that the belfry was located under the main dome. The temple is 2-storey.
In the fall of 2005, Metropolitan Yuvenaly performed one of the first services in the lower part of the church.
And on Easter 2006, priest Mikhail Egorov, the rector of the St. George Church, celebrated the first liturgy. Easter received an extraordinary and unforgettable experience. A lot of people gathered. Everything went very solemnly and beautifully: lighted candles, the scent of incense, instead of domes, an open sky, and the blessed fire, brought from Jerusalem, resounded right under the stars.
In the summer of 2006, work was carried out on the artistic decoration of the temple and mosaic icons, under the leadership of M. Kesler and M. Bogdanov.
The painting of the temple was carried out by icon painters under the direction of N. Azarova and L. Kallinikov.
The icon of St. George the Victorious was created in the workshop of the city of Shchigry, Kursk region. In the silver cuff of the saint was placed a particle of his relics, transferred to the Trinity-Sergeeva Lavra. In the lower church there is a shrine of the Athonite letter of the 19th century – the image of the Most Holy Theotokos “Mammal”, it was acquired by the head of the district V.Yu. Golubev at his own expense for the temple.
The facades of the temple are decorated with 6 mosaic icons.
The central icon “St. George the Victorious” – at the exhibition of temple art “Light to the World” (2007) was recognized as one of the best works.
In September 2007, Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsky and Kolomna, Archbishop Grigory (Chirkov) of Mozhaisk and Bishop Tikhon of Vidnovsky (Nedosekin) consecrated the Church of St. George.
